Sareefa is a new BMI client from the Serunuwara area in the Trincomalee district where she lives with her family. Her family was entirely reliant on her husband’s income, therefore she began growing rice in the ground next to their house and selling the crops to villagers in the area. Because rice is the staple diet of Sri Lankans, she finds that there is a large demand for her crops.
Now, having seen the benefits of Microfinance by attending cluster meetings, she wishes to invest in her business and has applied for a loan of Rs 30,000. She knows this timely investment will enable her to increase her profitability by purchasing more fertilizer and seedlings at a bulk discount rate.
