Niluka lives in the region of Serunuwara in the Trincomalee district with her husband, young son and infant daughter. Her husband is a businessman. In order to increase the family income which earlier relied on her husband’s earnings as a member of the navy, she has begun a carpet business at home, selling to people in her village.
Her average monthly income is approximately Rs 12,000. Niluka is a previous BMI customer. In June 2012 she took out a loan of Rs 25,000 to invest in the business and purchase raw materials. Because of the success of this investment and the positive impact it had on their profits, she has now applied for a loan of Rs 50,000. She knows the importance of investing in a business in a timely manner and looks forward to receiving this loan which will enable her to provide for her family.
