Senavirathna is 55 years old and lives in the region of Manupa in the Anuradhapura district with her husband (also in the picture) and daughter. In order to increase the family income which earlier relied on her husband’s earnings, she began dairy farming in order to sell milk to nearby villagers.
Her average monthly income is approximately Rs 30,000. Senaviratna is a previous BMI customer who has had approximately 9 years of experience running this business. In January 2012 she took out a loan of Rs 30,000 to purchase feed for the cows at a discounted bulk rate. Because of the success of this investment and the positive impact it had on their profits, she has now applied for a further loan of Rs 75,000. She wishes to purchase more cows and increase the quantity of milk that she is able to sell and attract more customers, increasing her sales. She knows the importance of investing in a business in a timely manner and looks forward to receiving this loan which will enable her to provide for her family by expanding her business.
