Rathnayaka lives in Galigamuwa in the Kegalle region. In order to supplement the family monthly income, he started up a business using his rice mill.
A previous BMI client, Rathnayaka took out a loan of Rs 25,000 in May 2010 in order to buy necessary raw materials in bulk and therefore get a better rate than she was previously able to receive. In August 2011 she took out a further loan of Rs 50,000 in order to improve the quantity and quality of the materials in order to increase the quantity of rice sold. After several years of experience running the business, Rathnayaka is very pleased with the recent improvements to her business since investing in it. Therefore, she has applied for a loan of Rs 75,000 with which to improve the business further, a timely investment to enable her to increase the profitability of her business and therefore her family's monthly income.
