Herath is a BMI client from the rural village called Saliyapura in Anuradhapura district.. She is engaged in a tailoring business and has several years of experience in it. At present her current average monthly income is around LKR 35,000.
However, the income she earns is largely spent on the household and the needs of her children. So, she was struggling to develop her business due to lack of enough investments. Then she found BMI and joined BMI in 2012 and obtained a loan of LKR 30,000. She used the loan money to purchase more rawa materials to increase the production.
The business picked up speedily and now Herath is hoping to expand it more by purchasing a new machine and diversifying the dresses she makes to match with current fashions. To finance these activities, she is now expecting her second loan of LKR 50,000 from BMI.
Her ambition is to start a mini garment to increase the production and reach markets beyond her village. Also with this she hopes to provide few employment opportunities to her fellow village ladies as well.
