Kumudhini V. Kaluwalage lives in a village in the Kegalle district with her husband, two sons and her mother and father. Her husband is a farmer who earns a monthly income of Rs. 15,000 which is used to support all six people living together. Her youngest son is still attending the local school.
At 30 years of age Kaluwalage has been running a timber business for the past 6 years and earns a monthly income of Rs. 35,000/-. She began her business venture as her husband was unable to fully financially support their two children and her parents. She now wishes to expand her business, due to success it has been experiencing, with the assistance of a BMI loan for Rs. 30,000/-.
Kaluwalage and her family live in their own home, but it remains partially completed due to the unavailable funds. She is now focused on growing her business and ensuring her youngest son completes his education.
Alongside her business Kaluawalage plays an active role in the local community.
