C. Kumari Jinasena lives in a village in Mawanella in the Kegalle district. Her husband is an officer with the Sri Lankan air force and they live with their only daughter. Their current monthly income is approximately Rs. 25,000. Her daughter is still attending a school in the village.
At 25 years of age Jinasena has been operating a carpet business for the past two years. She started the venture in order to help contribute to her family’s monthly income. Her business focuses on hand sewn carpets where she hopes to sell the products locally. Currently she is earning a monthly income of Rs. 6,000.
With the assistance of a BMI loan, valued at Rs. 30,000, Jinasena wishes to expand her business and contribute more to the family’s income. She and her family live in their own house, but it is only a partially completed structure. She hopes that an expanded earning capacity through the development of her business by investing at this opportune moment will help complete the necessary construction in their house.
