Thanuja lives in Ballapana area in Kegalle district with her family. Her husband is an Agricultural instructor and they have one daughter and a son. They both are still taking their primary education. Thanuja’s parents also lives with her family.
Thanuja owns a small boutique where she sells agro materials such as seeds, compost and fertilizer. Her husband helps her business to a great deal with his knowledge and experience in agriculture field. She had used her first loan of LKR 25,000 from BMI to improve this business she had at a very small level in 2010. Since the business showed good prospects, he took another loan of LKR 50,000 form BMI in 2011 November. The loan was used to purchase the selling items in bulk to the business. Now she owns a medium level boutique and the monthly income she earns from it is around LKR 35,000.
The income she earns from her business is a great support for her husband to manage the household economy of their family. Since the business continues to grow, Tanuja wants to accelerate it by investing some more money in it. Therefore, she has applied for her third BMI loan of LKR 75,000 now. She is hoping to use the money to increase the diversity and amount of the product she sells.
Tanuja is very ambitious and wants to develop her business and own a greater market share in the area. In the future she wishes to move in to a new business premises and purchase a vehicle to further support her business.
