55 years old Siriyalatha is a BMI client from Galigamuwa area in Kegalle district. Her husband is working as a barber in a nearby saloon. They have one son who is not employed yet.
Siriyalatha joined BMI in year 2010 and obtained her first loan of LKR 20,000. She used this money to renovate her house. By this time she had already started selling balloons and soft toys and was earning a substantial income from the business. She used her house as the warehouse for the items she sold. In year 2011, she went for her second loan of Rs. 40,000 to further develop her house.
By the end of year 2012, her yearly income stood at Rs. 88,000 from selling balloons and soft toys. Since the business is flourishing Siriyalatha now plans to request her third BMI loan of Rs. 75,000. She plans to use the loan to further develop her business by purchasing more selling items in bulk. She is very happy with her business and with increased income she is hoping to go for a small vehicle so that she can sell in other villages as well.
