Mallika is a BMI client form Mahailluppallama area in Anuradhapura district. She is engaged in dairy farming and has around three years of experience in it. As many dairy farmers in the area, she also sells the milk obtained to the village collection point. She earns around LKR 18,000 per month from this business.
She has first obtained her BMI loan in 2011 November. The loan money was used to part finance buying a dairy cow. Mallika’s huband is a farmer (in the photo) and the income he earns is not enough alone to cater the family needs. Thus, Mallika’s business is a good support to the family economy. Mallika and her husband has one daughter and a son. The elder daughter is currently employed.
Since the business is considerably successful, Mallika wishes to buy another dairy cow to increase the milk production amount. However, since the cost is high she has now applied for her second BMI loan of LKR 50,000 to finance it.
She is hoping to rear a healthy animal herd and support her husband in managing the household economy. She hopes that, with the new investment, her income will go up and enable her to save some money as well. He ultimate wish is to be a successful entrepreneur in the area.
