Swarna is an ambitious lady entrepreneur from the rural area called Settikulama. She owns little poultry flock, obtained under the buyback system from a local company. She started the business nearly an year ago. Her initial business was a retail shop and it was not successful. Thus, she had started the current business with lot of future hopes.
Swarna obtained her first BMI loan in 2011 November. It was LKR 25, 000 and she used it for the retail shop business to buy goods. Since that business was not successful, she chose to start a poultry business instead. Her present income from the business is around LKR 20,000 per month. Now she has applied for a second loan of LKR 50,000 from BMI. She plans to use the money to renovate the poultry house.
Swarna lives with her family in a partially completed house. Her husband is a mason. They have one son and he is still schooling. Since the mason job does not generate a steady income, Swarna ‘s business provides an additional income support for her family. Swarna hopes to continue this business and work hard to make it successful. She wishes to earn an extra income to complete her house and save some money for their child.
