Dhammika is a BMI client since 2010 January. Her first loan was LKR 25,000 housing loan. She had used the loan money to renovate her partially completed house, as the security and protection of her children is quite important. Her home is situated in Thunthota area in Kegalle district. She has two daughters and her husband is a Navy Soldier in Sri Lanka Navy.
Dhammika is now taking her second loan of LKR 50,000 form BMI for a small tea cultivation business. She had been doing tea cultivation for one and half years. She intends to use the money to re-plant tea in the current tea land and undertake some land improvements. She has not earned any income yet from the cultivation, since it is still in the growth stage.
However, she hopes that this cultivation would generate a good income for her in the future, in long run, as there is a good potential for tea cultivation in the area and many of her neighbors are successful in this business. She wants to expand the cultivated area up to one acre. At present the cultivated area is 0.5 acres. She is working hard to make it a success and thereby earn a steadier income for the family.
