Dayawathi joined BMI in 2011 and obtained an asset building loan of LKR 20,000. She used this money to renovate her house and later she had started a small domestic retail shop in there. Her house is situated in Settikulama in Anuradhapura district where she lives with her husband and her son’s family. Her husband is a farmer by profession and her son is working in the Sri Lankan armed forces. Her daughter-in-law also helps them with the farming and Dayawathi also has a little granddaughter to take care of.
Dayawathi now wishes to take another loan of LKR 50,000 from BMI. She plans to use this money to purchase selling items to her retail shop. At present she earns around LKR 20,000 of income per month, which she re-invests on her business as well and the balance is used for household expenses.
Dayawathi enjoys running her small business, helping out her husband and taking care of her granddaughter. She wants to develop her business in to a sustainable level that would enable her to uplift their income and living conditions. She also wants to save money for her granddaughter’s future as well.
