Metilda lives in a rural village in Kegalle District and is a client of BMI from year 2010. Metilda’s husband is a daily wage laborer and they have a teenage son. The son is studying for the advanced level exams, and the income from daily wages is inadequate for household needs.
Metilda started selling plastic household items about 2 years back. This was started with LKR 25,000 loan. The loan was repaid back recently and she advanced to the next loan cycle amounting to LKR 50,000. The loan will be utilized to purchase plastic items for selling. However, Matilda hopes to expand the business and start selling household electric items as well.
