Rupawathi lives in a remote village named in Kegalle District with her family. Rupawathi’s husband is a mason and they have a son and a daughter. Both children are schooling. Though the main income earner is the husband of the family, Rupawathi also maintains a small tea land as an additional income.
Rupawathi joined with BMI in year 2010 to the cluster AL/2/2 and her first loan was for 25,000 LKR obtained for tea cultivation. Using the first loan tea replanting was carried out in the existing ½ acre. The current loan; which is the second, is of LKR 50,000. This loan is to extend her tea cultivation by another ½ acre, close to the current cultivated area. Rupawathi plans to extend her tea small holding to 1 ½ acres in future.
