She is the group leader who organizes monthly meetings and ensures that all repayments are made on time. Hamida Bibi is sitting second from right in the group photo. She is 29 years old and married. She runs a vegetable business for the last three years. She wants to expand her business as her customers are increasing and so she has applied for a micro loan. She has five members in her family including one daughter and two sons who are attending school. Her husband also helps her in this business. Her monthly income is Rs. 2000/- (USD44). Farida Naj is sitting in the middle in the group photo. She is 35 years old and married. She has a tailoring business with her husband. She has been doing this for the last eleven years. She has a good reputation in her locality and so her customers are increasing. She wants to buy one tailoring machine and hire a person for helping her in this business and so has applied for a micro loan. She has two daughters and one son who are attending school. Her monthly income is Rs. 2000/- (USD44). Nurjan Begum is sitting second from the left in the group photo. She is 57 years old and married. She lives with her husband and two sons. She has a tailoring business. Her husband also helps her in this. She wants to expand her business by buying a tailoring machine and so has applied for a micro loan. She has many customers to whom she is unable to deliver on time. Her monthly income is Rs. 2000/- (USD44). Jaigun Bibi is 35 years old and married. She is sitting first from the left in the group photo. She provides taxi service with her husband. Her auto-rickshaw needs repairs as it is in a very bad condition. In order to repair her auto she has applied for micro loan. She has one son who attends school. She wants to give her son a better education in spite of her low income. She also wants to save something for the future. Her monthly income is Rs. 2500/- (USD55). These entrepreneurs are very dedicated and want to do good for themselves and their families. They understand the concept of a Joint Liability Group. In case any member is unable to repay the micro loan, they will pay on behalf of the member whose loan is delinquent. The entrepreneurs in the group support each other through the joint liability concept. Note: In the entrepreneur names you may find that several last names are repeated e.g. Devi, Bibi, Kumari. These are not last names as commonly understood but respectful ways of addressing ladies in certain parts of India
