Kaushalya runs a grocery shop in Manupa in Anuradhapura district. She has been running this shop for around 10 years. She lives with her husband and children in that small village. Husband is a laborer and he too helps out with his wife’s business from time to time. . Kaushalya’s parent also lives with her. Kaushalya has one schooling son. She and her husband both are in a mission on giving a good education for their child.
Kaushalya became a new BMI member in 2011 and she got her first financial assistance in the same year. The loan amount she received is Rs. 30,000. She spent her loan amount to purchase groceries. Because of she used the loan amount efficiently; she was able to obtain an income of Rs. 40,000 per month.
Kaushalya sells food items and home needs in her shop. Now, Kaushalya plans to increase the variety of goods, so, she applied for another loan amount of Rs. 50,000 to buy other varieties of goods.
