Mallika is an existing BMI client engaged in tailoring. She has many years’ experience in the field. She is married and lives with her husband and four children in a rural village called Padidora in Mawanella in the Kegalle District.
She first joined BMI in 2011 and had taken her first loan of LKR 25,000/-. She used the loan money to purchase a machine for the business.
At present she is fairly successful and earns an income around LKR 48,000/- per month. Now she wants to diversify her products more and obtain high quality materials to make the dresses to sell at a higher price. To finance this activity she has now applied for her second loan of LKR 50,000/- from BMI.
Her business is a major income source of their family of six and covers most of the household expenses as well. Three of her children are adults and still live under her care. Of them, two have temporary employment while the daughter is unemployed. Thus this business is very much important to them. She wishes to have a substantial savings for their future use. She is confident that in the near future she will be able to provide one or two employment opportunities for a couple of village girls with the improvement to the business. Her ultimate ambition is to own a sustainable business with a good income and live life without burden to anyone.
